| Catching Up with Casey McGehee | | By David Taub | Casey McGehee is a content ballplayer. Now toiling in the minor leagues for his sixth season, the former Fresno State standout is still waiting for his chance to be in “The Show.” For the last three years, McGehee has played for the Iowa Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
McGehee and his Cubs made visited the Grizzlies in late April. This was Casey’s second trip as a pro into the town that he excelled as an amateur. During the series, he went 4-for-15, with four RBI and a home run.
The Santa Cruz native is a familiar face to the valley, playing three years for Fresno State (2001-2003).
The Valley Amateur had a chance to catch up with the catcher and third baseman. He recalls the fun of playing for the Red Wave faithful and thoughts on his professional career.
The Valley Amateur: what is it like to return to Fresno now that you are a professional ballplayer?
Casey McGehee: It’s a little different. It’s kind of weird being on the road in what has become my second hometown. It is good to come back see everybody and visit with people that I don’t get to see very regularly. I have had a good time. It’s a little stressful, but fun at the same time.

| Men place 3rd, Women 4th at Community College Trials | | By | The Fresno City Rams made a solid appearance at the Northern California Community College Trials in San Mateo May 2nd, placing in the top five in both men’s and women’s competitions.
Seven schools showed up to participate in the men’s division. However, six of the colleges were left staring at Hartnell College, who finished in first place with 27 points. American River was the next closest competitor with 15 points. Fresno City took the bronze with 12 points, including a first place finish in the hammer and discus throw events.

| Bulldogs and Head Coach Angie Cates capture first WAC title | | By | The Fresno State women’s golf team picked a great time to win their first tournament of the season. In the 18th annual WAC championships held at Sunnyside country club in Fresno April 21-23, the Bulldogs captured their first WAC title in the four year program’s history.
Entering the final day with a seven-stroke deficit, the Bulldogs turned heads with a 14-stroke swing as they came out as 2008 WAC champions, winning by seven strokes over second place New Mexico State.
